place several non choacral-lighter loaded briquettes in a sock and hang them on something inside the safe. Charcoal is a natural oder absorbing material and it won't harm your guns. Using the oak choacral briquettes will give it a little bit of a pleasant oak sent. Very interesting. We saw the BGE at a store in Tampa and rlelay liked it but the big turn off was that they told us you can only use charcoal there, what's worse - only charcoal you buy from them. With all the fallen oak trees we have here, I'm not buying no imported charcoal, that's for sure. Did you have a chance to try your homemade charcoal in the BGE yet?

Kristy-Charcoal chimneys geernate an intense heat directly above and beneath them. Generally speaking, table top/portable grills are made of thinner metal and they are not made to handle that amount of directed heat.As to where to put it to cool, usually best to set it upright in dirt (not mud) or sand, but I have set mine on concrete for the majority of it's life. BlueSea / I think the one that is quick light, it has the lighter fluid aladery in it. The one problem we have it have to constantly add fluid to keep the fire going to get the coals to start. WE live in a very humid area so I thing that is part of the problem.
